August 13, 201015 yr Hello, I've seen the promise sata300 tx4 used all over these forums, so I got one. It came in today, so I'm itching to get home and try it. I've got a question based on a statement in the manual for this card. There is a caution statement in the manual that states "Use of removable disk drive enclosures other than Promise Technology's SuperSwap is not supported and may result in performance loss or other undesirable results." I was planning on getting an Icy Dock hot swap enclosure for this also. Has anyone seen that this card in combination with any Icy Dock non-raid hot swap devices has any problems? I haven't seen any, but wanted to make sure before I took the next step. Thanks in advance.
August 13, 201015 yr The Promise TX4 will work with the ICY Dock units. The point to keep in mind, unraid itself is not hot swap capable. Swapping a drive will require proper stop and shutdown, power off and then a boot. I.E. You cannot swap a drive live. (even if you used the Promise recommended units).

Just an FYI: You cannot swap a drive live when that drive is part of the unRAID protected array. Those of us who have additional drives that are not part of the array can swap those live.
August 14, 201015 yr Author I have additional drives for now, until I get the plus license... I've a question around that also, but i'll create a new thread for it. Thanks again
