First off, you guys are a great community and love seeing your builds and suggestions. I'd love to finally bite the bullet and get my first ever build going. That said since the wiki's MOBO is out of stock, what do you guys think of the BIOSTAR AM3/AM2+/AM2 DDR2 AMD 785G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard TA785GE 128M (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002NN5M0U/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER)?

The budget build doesn't say, but do I need a PCI RAID Controller Card in addition to the wiki's Supermicro add-on? I think I'll be expanding this build to 15 drives in the future and want everything ready to go when I do.

CPU: AMD Sempron 140

MOBO: BIOSTAR AM3/AM2+/AM2 DDR2 AMD 785G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard TA785GE 128M

RAM: Kingston ValueRAM 2 GB 800MHz PC2-6400 DDR2 DIMM Memory (KVR800D2N5/2G)

CASE: Cooler Master Centurion 590 ATX Mid Tower Case Black

PSU: Corsair CMPSU-400CX 400-Watt CX Series 80 Plus Certified Power Supply

HOTSWAP: (any suggestions on something a little more stylish? this build isn't being tucked away)

EXPANSION: SuperMicro AOC-SASLP-MV8

HDD: Whatever 1-2TB is on sale at the moment

I'd love to hear your opinions. btw, i'm using amazon for many of the parts b/c they're the same price as newegg (and tax free for me in California). Thanks.

The mobo is fine especially at $50 except that you want to expand to 15 sata ports.  This board only has 1 PCIe slot, while many mATX have a 16x and a 1x allowing you to add more ports.  You can add a 2 port PCI card and that kind of maxes this board out.  6 onboard + 8 SASLP is 14.  You can do it but I'd be inclined to find a board with the customary 4 expansion slots instead of 3 if I really needed the 15th port.

Right, what queeg said, you'll only get to 14 drives with that board.  If you can live with that, or if you can live with having a single drive on the PCI bus (which isn't a big deal, it will still be fast enough), then go for it.

Alternatively, if you have a bit of time to spare, you can wait to see what we as a community come up with in this thread.

thanks for the suggestion. it looks like i have a little more research to do and in the meantime i'll keep an eye out for results in that thread.
