BLAZE Posted May 17, 2018 Share Posted May 17, 2018 (edited) here is what my Qnap has for specs: Qnap TVS-1271U-RP CPU i3-4150 3.5ghz dual core 4 threads 24 gigs of ram dual channel support 12 3tb drives -i'm not sure but i want to look into 4TB drives and get rid of the WD drives and go Seagate 2 samsung SSD 850 256Gig cache drives Sorry internal cache ports are two KINGSTON SMS200S3240G 608ABBF0 now here is my question: Can i get rid of the QNAP software and use something more useful like UNRAID? Do i have to use it as a flash drive or can i install it on the DOM? if i can only run USB can i some how wipe the DOM so never to boot QNAP agian if i choose so down the road? Look at 6 or 8 GB drives and instead use fewer drives, leaving the remaining slots for later. Quote Link to comment
Vr2Io Posted May 18, 2018 Share Posted May 18, 2018 (edited) There are no reason to touch/change the DOM. Just unplug it so you may return back to QTS anytime. Add a valid USB stick and hard test unRAID would run as expect / normal, then another issue should be how to transfer data from 3TBx12 to new disk/unRAID.
