docker service failed to start

Featured Replies

This afternoon I noticed that my plex server was offline.  When i looked at the docker tab of my server, the version column said unknown for all my dockers.  I tried to reboot my server and after doing so, when I click on the docker tab it says "Docker Service failed to start"

how can I troubleshoot this?

i have attached my disgnostics file.

Error starting daemon: write /var/lib/docker/volumes/metadata.db: no space left on device

Error starting daemon: write /var/lib/docker/volumes/metadata.db: no space left on device

Odds on you've got something either storing downloads into the docker.img file, or some of your logging on an app is haywire (which you can fix via the docker tab, advanced mode once the service is stopped)

Either way, your recourse is to delete the docker image (Docker - Disable the service, advanced view, delete the image, then re-enable the service) followed by Apps Tab, previous apps section, reselect your installed apps and hit install.  Couple minutes later you're back in business

Since there is 40GB configured for the docker image file which is way above what most people have configured then it almost certainly means one or more docker containers are set up so that files are being written internally to the image file.

nevermind - I found it.  to stop the docker service I had to go to the Settings tab and then click on docker.

i deleted the image, started the service back up and reinstalled all my dckers from the docker tab, template dropdown and now im good to go.    thanks!!!

now i just have to figure out what is writing to my docker image.

Hey there. I think I'm having a similar issue. How do you delete your docker image? Should I do this via putty and midnight commander or is there something you can do in web gui?

Diagnostica attached.

In the GUI go to Settings -> Docker

First stop the docker service and you are able to delete and create a new image.

Sorry for the dumb question but where??

Apparently the docker service failed to start (status = stopped)

Change "Enable Docker" to "No" and click Apply.
