Water-cooling and fan help

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have been researching my build that is on the extreme side for all in one. Plex for starters as I have alot of videos that will be ripped. It will be also be for gaming as that is my social interaction due to an industrial accident that keeps me home-bound for the most part.

My parts list for reference is: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/z8PMbX disregard the memory as it will not be RGB.(specs will be the same)

I could not get a clear answer on watercooling for the cpu8700k (will not be overclocked at this time - stability). My gpu is a EVGA 1080Ti FTW 3 fan cooler and so that is taken care of. I went with Corsair case, power supply and for water cooler H115i pro. The case fans will be ML140.

1. Is water cooling viable for this build or in general? I may have the pc on alot for transcoding for family and friends to use as well as playing games at the same time.  My current system has Noctua fans that I have been pleased with. Just it is huge in the case.

2. I got the itch for rgb fans, but the motherboard Asrock z370 Taichi has limited RGB function. The Case Corsair 750D has a fan controller that is included for 6 fans, but can't be used for RGB control. I would need to purchase the commander pro for the RGB. Does this management work with unRAID? Do I need to have my VM open for it to work? Thoughts?

3. I went with the corsair products to use there software Link to monitor and makes changes to the fans, cpu pump etc.. for easier control. I'm hoping I can use this?

The parts list is still open for thoughts and suggestions. Appreciate any help!

Water cooling is always viable. But the pumps are the weak spots - lots of people have suffered failed pumps supplied from lots of different manufacturers. And the pump is really a huge single-point-of-failure. Most gaming machines aren't on 24/7 while unRAID machines normally are.

Thanks for your response. I was thinking about this and the build while sleeping which often has provided insight. I have done redundancy on cache and data drives, but not on the cpu which now makes sense. I was thinking water cooler since they were cool (pun intended), but now for stability will go with fans. Should the cpu fan fail at least there is still air flowing from the front case fans.

Still curious if RGB is still viable for the case fans.
