Running P4P800e deluxe headless

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm currently testing unRaid on some old parts:

Asus P4P800e-deluxe (no onboard video)

1.5Ghz P4

512mb ram

Does anyone know how I can run this headless?

I think it has to have video card, currently an old radeon 9100.

If so I'm thinking an older PCI or fanless AGP card.

Does it also have to have a monitor plugged in?

When I test it it seems to run without a monitor but not start up so shutdown is out. Would this be the same for S3 suspend?

Any other suggestions or should I ust go out and buy all new bits like the Aussie budget Asus mobo if thaat can run headless.

Thanks Josh

I've been running this motherboard for about a year with no problems (see my sig). I start it up with no monitor, KB etc -- just power and LAN.

You will need a video card in there, but you don't have to attach a monitor.

It's not much slower at reading and writing to the array than my newer machine. It does suck up a fair bit of power, so I leave it off most of the time.

I don't know why you're having problems -- maybe check the BIOS settings to see if there are applicable options.

Note also that 512MB RAM may be a limitation, depending on how many drives you have in the server(?) and/or what programs you run on it (cache dirs etc.)

Thanks Neilt0,

A bit more testing and mine won't run without a monitor plugged in. I'm thinking if yours is fine it may be my graphics card (Radeon 9100). Anyone agree with that?

I'll either try a cheap PCI or AGP card or get a new system.

Thanks Josh
