May 27, 20188 yr Hi all, I'm starting to build my own unraid server, and I would like your opinion and/or tips. The services I will be using my unraid server for are: Plex media server. I have an average of 4 transcode's at the same time. Cold data storage Running 1 vm for my FreePBX VoIP system (low resources) Running 1 Windows vm for just daily use, no gaming. My dockers i'm currently running are: Plex PiHole Radarr Sonarr Lidarr SabnzbdVPN Tautulli Ombi makeMKV Netdata NZbHydra2 Grafana in combinations with InFluxDB and Telegraf Note that not all my dockers will be running 24/7. Mainly the media, download and PiHole dockers will be on 24/7 The system I configured is the following: Case: Fractal Design node 804 http://www.fractal-design.com/home/product/cases/node-series/node-804 CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600X https://www.amd.com/en/products/cpu/amd-ryzen-5-1600x Mobo: Gigabyte-GA-AB350M-DS3H-AMD-X370 https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-AB350M-DS3H-rev-1x#kf RAM with this mobo: Crucial DDR4 Ballistix Sport LT 1x8GB 2666 OR Mobo: MSi B-350M Mortar https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B350M-MORTAR.html RAM with this mobo: Crucial DDR4 1x8GB 2133 DR SSD: Samsung EVO 970 m.2 250Gb https://www.samsung.com/us/computing/memory-storage/solid-state-drives/ssd-970-evo-nvme-m-2-250gb-mz-v7e250bw/ SSD 2: Kingston SSDNow V300 120 GB 2,5 inch (already in use) Drives: 8x Seagate IronWolf 4TB PSU: be quiet! Straight Power 10 700W CM PSU https://www.bequiet.com/en/powersupply/525 SATA: Dell Perc H200 in IT mode Now what i don't know is if i use the m.2 port, if that will cost me on board sata ports. I'm planning to connect 8 drives through the H200 card, and connect 1 SSD up to on of the onboard ports. With the MSI i would still have 5 ports left for future expansion and with the Gigabyte i would have 3 ports left. Also I'm a bit worried about PCIe flooding the lanes. Would that be an issue here? And i'm still doubting about the motherboard, any tips or recommendations here would be greatly appreciated Thanks a lot for any response.
