August 18, 201015 yr Last night I put in a new hard drive and started the preclear process. I woke up this morning and the telnet window wasn't open anymore. I checked the server and it is running, but it doesn't appear on my network. Connecting it to a monitor displays just a blank screen, no promt or anything. Running 4.5.6 I haven't done anything since. Wondering what might've happened overnight (there were no power events) and mainly how best to fix it.
August 18, 201015 yr If there is nothing on the system monitor, and pressing enter does not get you a response, you basically only have one choice... reboot I'd then start with a memory test, and verify all the fans are running (and it did not overheat) Joe L.
August 18, 201015 yr Author I went to reboot the server, hit the power button, nothing happened, looked at the monitor and there was the familiar unraid command promt. It still doesn't show up on the network but I was able to use the tail command to get the syslog, attached is a picture of it. Although now I seem to be stuck in the tail command, how can I exit it? The 'powerdown' command didn't seem to work, now that I have access to the command line what's the cleanest way to shut down the system? I have only the default packages of unMenu installed. Thanks Joe. Syslog
August 18, 201015 yr Can you still not get access to the webGUI interface? You can type ifconfig and it should give you an ip address and then from there you could http://ipadresshere on your machine with a browser
August 19, 201015 yr Can you still not get access to the webGUI interface? You can type ifconfig and it should give you an ip address and then from there you could http://ipadresshere on your machine with a browser All the messages stating "Link down" "Link up" "Link down" to me indicate a cabling problem with your network, Look there for your issues. Joe L.
August 19, 201015 yr Author I forced a shutdown by holding the power button, restarted and everything booted up and networked fine. Restarted and running memtest now..
August 19, 201015 yr Author Ok, tried preclearing again and the same thing happened, except the putty window is still open, stuck at 87% in the pre-read, 6h:35 in. Forced a restart, and everything works fine. I guess I'll just do a traditional clearing when I find the time.

Forced a restart, and everything works fine. I guess I'll just do a traditional clearing when I find the time. The crash is a symptom. The pre-clearing process is just exercising your server's power supply, memory, CPU, etc. I'm guessing ANY use of your server for any length of time will result in the same crash. The pre-read is no different than the read that will occur when you perform a parity check. Now, it is possible your specific disk being cleared has an issue that locks up the server, in which case, no matter what method you use to read or write to it, you will experience the same crash. Good luck. Joe L.
