Upgrade build/mobo switch

Featured Replies

Morning all,

I'm pulling the trigger and upgrading my unraid rig.

The old one was put together on a shoestring about 8 years ago as a barebones/cheapo and this AMD cemperon build is starting to creak at the seams.

It regularly crashes for no reason, usually when sickrage or radarr try to write to it, or if I finish watching one video and try to start it, but there is no easily definable reason for it. I've spent at least 6 months debating next steps.

I thought it might be the PSU overloading but it's at that age that I'm just going to replace everything.

I've checked all the drives (having replaced a few old ones that died over the years) and I'm stumped as to what is wrong, but I think the 8 drives I have running might just be too much for it after non-stop use for 8 years.

I'd love to get the community's thoughts on the below build:

I'm going to re-use my case, drives etc and see this as a motherboard switch essentially which should be easy enough.

My PSU should be fine but I've got a spare Be-Quiet 650w I will probably drop in. Assuming 200w tops for 8 drives and the below I should have no power issues.

Any thoughts on the parts/anything scream don't buy that bit?

Ryzen seems to be the way to get a cheapish but decent upgrade to this aging beast!
