Reformat SSD to XFS?

Featured Replies

I'm using my SSD as storage for dockers, plugins, temporary downloads etc. so my disks don't have to spin up. I've ran the Fix Problems plugin, and one thing it noticed was that the SSD was formatted as ReiserFS, so the Trim plugin would not work. It was recommended to reformat it to XFS. Sounds logical.

Now, can i just stop all dockers etc., move the contents of the SSD to a (folder on a) temporary harddisk, reformat the SSD to XFS, move the stuff back, and that is it? Should that work?

My SSD is not used as an actual cache drive... it is assigned as one, but not used as one. I'm also not using the mover.  So i guess that procedure won't work?

Do you mean the opposite? If it's assigned to the cache slot you can use the procedure, if not just move the data manually, make so no files are in use.

No... the SSD is assigned to the cache slot, but 'use cache disk' in global settings is OFF. Also there is no mover functionality.

I think i can just do it as i described, manually copy the contents to a temp location, format the SSD, and copy it back... just wanna make sure i'm not missing something.

Copied everything to a disk, formatted the SSD to XFS, started array, copied back... and now the docker service won't start... i even rebooted, did not help. Any idea's?

Since it's assigned to the cache slot you should have used the procedure I linked above, you just needed to enable use cache disk.

Both the docker and libvirt images are corrupt, docker it's easy to delete and recreate, but to keep your VMs libvirt needs to be restored from backup or you'll need to recreate the VMs XML, though you can still use the old vdisks.

Like i said, the procedure wont work since it is NOT a cache disk, so there is NO mover...

My guess is i have to re-create all dockers...

You just need to recreate the image, you can add the old dockers from my templates or CA.
