June 9, 20188 yr Hi, so before I do something really stupid would it be possible (and working of course) to connect my unraid usb stick to an additionally installed pcie usb card and then passthrough all onboard usb controller? Thanks! Felix
June 9, 20188 yr Only if you can boot via the pcie card Why not just passthrough the pcie card instead?
June 9, 20188 yr Author Thanks, thought someone would ask that I would like to use the front USB and also the USB 2.0 header on my board for a vm. And theres no need for so much usb devices in unraid itself. I just started unraid plugged in the pcie card and it seems to work
June 9, 20188 yr Author Ok, doesn't work, at least for now. The SATA controller is in the same IOMMU group. Until I figure something out to split those two, I will use the pcie card for the vms
June 9, 20188 yr Author Just discovered the hotplug usb plugin, makes things much easier so I don't need to passthrough the onboard usb and can sill use the front usb ports
June 9, 20188 yr Not surprised. I've been finding that most new boards (at least the ones I've used as of late) have all the usb controllers in the same group, regardless of ACS override or not. Semi workaround is to leave the "permanent" usb devices being used for VM's (ie: keyboards & mice) utilizing the non-passed through controllers, and pass the device through to the VM when editing the VM template. Best results though only on low bandwidth devices.
