bluesspoon
Time to upgrade my server I built more than five years ago off the Pimp Your Rig thread. Ran like a dream up until recently when I started wanting to watch 4K streams and while it does play the MB beeps constantly and CPU load is at 100% on cpu 0/2 & cpu 1/3. It stops beeping and load goes back to 1% as soon as I stop video. Below is the setup I have running Unraid v 6.5.3: MB: SUPERMICRO MBD-X9SCM-F-O LGA 1155 Intel C204 Micro ATX Intel Xeon E3 Server Motherboard CPU: Intel Core i3-2100 Sandy Bridge 3.1GHz LGA 1155 65W Dual-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 2000 BX80623I32100 RAM: Kingston 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM ECC Unbuffered DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Server Memory Model KVR1333D3E9SK2/8G CABLE: 2 x NORCO C-SFF8087-4S Discrete to SFF-8087 (Reverse breakout) Cable - OEM CABLE: 4 x 1m 30AWG Internal Mini SAS 36pin (SFF-8087) Male to Mini SAS 36pin (SFF-8087) Male Cable - Black FANS: 2 x ARCTIC F8 Pro PWM Fluid Dynamic Bearing Case Fan, 80mm PWM Speed Control, 33CFM at 22dBA FANS: 2 x Nexus PWM Series D12SL-12PWM 120mm Case cooler CONTROLLER: SATA2 Serial ATA II PCI-Express RAID Controller Card (Silicon Image SIL3132) CONTROLLER: 2 x Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 8-Port SAS/SATA Add-on Card CASE: RPC-4224 4U Rackmount Server Case with 24 Hot-Swappable SATA/SAS Drive Bays, MiniSAS Connector CASE BRACKET: 120mm fan wall bracket for RPC-4224, RPC-4220, RPC-4216, RPC-4116, RPC-4020, RPC-4164 I also added psu, usb (unraid), ssd (cache) and 24 hard drives (1 parity & 23 storage). One thing I did have a Plex Pass (expired now) and I cannot recall this happening. It wouldn't be that causing the issue? If not plex pass then I gather I need to update mb, cpu and ram. Something to play 4K streams (atleast 1 and 2 streams of 1080p at once) definitely and depending on budget maybe something that can play games as well. Any help is really appreciated. JonathanM
Before going through the full CPU generational update, I think I might gamble on just a CPU upgrade and see what that got you. Your current CPU is a 3683 passmark with 2 cores, you can spend ~$100USD for an e3-1230v2 with 8854 passmark and 4 cores. Quote Link to comment

Shipping is like 2-3 weeks to Aus. Will let you know how I get on. 1 Quote Link to comment

Life-time extensions of existing hardware also means the option of having a decent backup machine when it gets time to buy a completely new rig. Quote Link to comment
