unRAID is trying too hard to access my dead hard drive and not booting properly

I'm trying to do the parity swap procedure detailed at https://lime-technology.com/wiki/The_parity_swap_procedure, but unRAID is trying (and failing) repeatedly to connect to my dead hard drive at power on and thus not booting properly or initializing the web GUI. How am I supposed to do steps 1-4 if I can't access the website?
