Though APC tends to be more expensive for sine wave units. I found a number of other members here using the CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD unit. So, I bought it through Staples with a coupon and got it for ~$150. It works with unRAID. I tested and it safely shuts my system down. Quote Link to comment

I can post them here but might take a few weeks... I am going away in 2 weeks but i am thinking sometime end of july it should be completed when i get back. I was thinking i could go free Nas and RAID but no ECC and The reason i like unraid is because all my disks wont be accessing when streaming since the data is not striped , and if you lose a disk and something awful happens where it cannot be restored i guess that data is only lost on that one disk if parity is lost , hopefully i dont have a backplane explode on me , since i heard Norco 4224 are awful . I am still clueless what else i can do with unraid such as dockers and for my cache drives i can provide 2 ssds for cache 1tb ea. Does unraid set these up for raid? These SSDs will of course have to be plugged into my mobo. other than that not sure what dockers are good and where do i find a listing of them beside plex. I'm sure anything you share about your build will be great. It gives others a chance to see what someone else did with their build. With unRAID, after installing Community Applications, the apps tab is created and that's where the dockers and plugins can be found. Then you just search by keyword for the kinds of applications you want. Also, @gridrunner creates videos on various unRAID topics on his Youtube channel Spaceinvader One. That's where I'd start. As for the SSD cache, the default for two disks is a raid 1 (mirror) cache pool. Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
got me some reverse breakout cables for my Norco 4224 If these are to go from the HBA or expander to backplane SATA ports you need forward breakout cables. Quote Link to comment

CSIG1001
Just received my Norco 4224, paid about 350.00 delivered.. Build quality seems ok for me , although would have preferred a used supermicro case, could not find one that would suit me for under 400.00 with a decent backplane. Had a few question I received TWO 2X ., Dell PERC H310 8-Port Internal 6Gb/s SAS/SATA RAID Controller HV52W and a Intel RAID Storage Controller Res2sv240 E91267-203 SAS SATA 6gb 24 Port I plan on using two 1TB SSDs as Cache drives , my Z270 , 32gb ram , 7700k Asrock Tachi has 6gbps sata ports, i belive the backplace is 12gbps sas 2.0 I plan on running Unraid with 24 , 8 TB drives using the two raid cards and my intel raid 24 port sas expander , giving me access to 32 hard drives As for the Unraid OS i am assuming this will be run off the USB stick and my cache drives can run off my dell 8x raid controller using the Sas forward breakout cables.. Or should i just do Sata to Sata on the SSDs to the motherboard? Since plex does not need a GPU I plan on using my onboard 7700k graphics, now maybe someone can give me some advice with plex on here. Do I need a dedicated grpaphics to transcode /or direct stream 10bit 4k UHD , talking 50+gb movies? If so i have a spare GTX 1080. If i do this setup I will have to give my intel Sas expander dedicated 5v power and mount in the case somewhere. I would prefer to do this to free up a PCI slot since the sas expander will not have a spot with a graphics card. attached is pictures of the Norco 4224 should six SAS ports, one of the Dell HDD controller and my intel sas expander. Thanks Quote Link to comment
CSIG1001
Forgot to mention I got a deal on ebay for the 2x dell raid controllers H310 which i will be flashing and the intel sas expander , all for 55.00 dollars. shipped .... Quote Link to comment
BetaQuasi
I would just attach the cache drives directly to the SATA ports on the motherboard if you don't intend on using them for anything else. I can see the Norco 4224's have come a fair way since I bought mine 6 years ago! Those mounting bolts etc look like they are much better quality. That being said, I haven't had a single issue with the case/backplanes etc in 6 years now, so all good! 1 Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
Like mentioned use the onboard SATA ports for the SSDs, as the H310 doesn't support trim. Quote Link to comment
CSIG1001
Thanks I will go ahead and order my sas cables and run the SSDs off the motherboard with Sata cables.. Makes sense thanks johnnie should i be concerned about buying sas cables on ebay that might be only 3gbps? Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
Most currently available cables should be at least 6Gbps (SAS2/SATA3) Quote Link to comment
CSIG1001
I was going to go with Nocua 1300 pwms figured id save myself 42 bucks buying 3x fans then I found my 2xcougar fans 800-1500 RPM with anti vibration pads down in the basement, and will be using a 120mm corsair fan that lights up red. The corsair fan is not as quiet as the cougar but i am sure this combo fan setup in the Norco 4224 will help with noise and airflow alot vs the stock fans which i heard were atrocious . I will leave the 80mm fans at the rear stock. Not too concerned about noise since this case will be in the basement where it is cool and dry Edited July 6, 2018 by CSIG1001 Quote Link to comment
BetaQuasi
The stock fans are actually amazing for airflow, they are just noisy as all hell. If you don't care about noise, I wouldn't bother switching them out. Quote Link to comment

I have left over 120mm fans which are quieter and produce better airflow. Just ordered Six 32" SAS cables for 24.00 shipped.. Not bad , will have alot of extra cable and will just zip tie them off. 15 inch cables in the norco were kinda short, Quote Link to comment
