bbig119
I have a disk that failed to mount following an update to my Unraid server. I know there are many similar posts to this, but before starting down a path I don't fully understand, I thought I would put up my diagnostics to ask for some help. Thanks!! JorgeB
There's some kind of MBR problem on disk7: Jul 1 00:27:49 Tower emhttpd: error: ckmbr, 2031: No such file or directory (2): open: /dev/sdf1 Rebuilding to the same disk *should* fix it, to a new one will fix it for sure. If you want to do that start the array with no disk7 assigned, the emulated disk should now mount correctly, if all looks good rebuild to the old disk (or to a new one). Link to comment

I've started the rebuild on the existing disk. Its a new disk, so I'll give this a try right now and if it fails again, I'll either look to return or submit for RMA. Link to comment
JorgeB
It doesn't look like a disk problem, just wasn't sure a rebuild would fix it, but it it's mounting now it should be OK for the future. Link to comment
bbig119
This is my first go with Unraid, where I've recycled an old windows 7 system that was acting as a server, but eventually gave out. All the disks are new. On several occasions, I've tried installing some disks from the previous system and in all instances those disks eventually got kicked out with the same error as the one I'm posting about, but that has never happened with a new disk until now. The old disks are mostly in the 1-2 TB range, so I happily replaced all of my existing storage with new 8 TB disks. This is a long way of saying, that your idea that it the problem could be something other than the disk is interesting, and one I may need to look into further. Thanks again for your help. I suspect that the rebuild will work, but it will be interesting if I get this problem again in at some point in the near future. Link to comment
bbig119
Update on this. So following the rebuild, my server had been up for 43+ days without any incident. Last night while watching a movie via Plex at home, the movie stopped in the middle and I was unable to easily recover. The plex server could be restarted, but I was unable to connect to it from any method. I did a server reboot, which fixed the plex problem, but that the drive I had issues with in July (Disk 7-sdf) is throwing an unmountable: unsupported partition layout again. Its the same disk I had the issue with, but it was purchased new in June. Its installed on an old computer. I don't recall if its connected via ports on the motherboard or via an expansion card. I can easily rebuild the disk again, but I would like some advice on what I should do to track down this issue. My first thought is to replace the SATA cable and/or change the SATA port that the disk is using on the computer. Link to comment
JorgeB
Did you grab the diagnostics before rebuilding? Without them can't say much. Link to comment

Sorry I didn't post before. I have not started the rebuild yet. tower-diagnostics-20180819-0926.zip Link to comment
JorgeB
Diags are after rebooting, the only ones that could help would be the ones before rebooting, when the movie stopped playing. Link to comment

Sorry, I didn't get those. My bad. I'm going to proceed with the rebuild. Hopefully the worst that will happen is that this will occur again, and without any damage or loss of data. Thank again for your help. Link to comment
