Broke my USB drive, can't locate backup -- just want to confirm my next steps

Featured Replies

Hi all -

In the haste to get my computers cleaned out of the basement before a recent move, I spun my Unraid machine around 90 degrees to unplug the rear cords, and completely smashed the USB drive which was sticking out the back of the unit. I know that I have a backup somewhere of the config, but can't seem to locate it anywhere at the moment. Fortunately, my Unraid 6 setup is just about stock, so I will have very little re-configuration to do.

I do thankfully have a list of my drives from my weekly "array health report" email.

I plan to acquire a new USB drive, install a fresh Unraid 6 copy on it, and plug it to my server. I'll then activate the new USB drive via the GUI.

I'll have to re-configure the drives that it has detected, which I'll do by following the table below.

Am I missing anything? Does it matter what was on my cache drive previously, or what plugins I had set up? I assume I can just blast it all away and start over.

thanks for any input, or reassurance!

Matt

Do you have your .key file? If you put it in the config directory on your new flash drive, you all be able to transfer your license.

OK, thanks. I do have my key from (from 2013). I'll keep looking for my backups too...i may still be able to track it down.

You have to be careful with backups. If you have changed your drive configuration since the backup was taken, you can have serious data loss. Delete the super.dat file unless you are sure no changes were made. I wouldn't worry too much about the backups. Good experience resetting up your UnRaid every few years. Keeps you in practice!
