Compass
I'm trying to get PMS.conf changes to take but so far have had no luck. So, do I have to take the array offline when changing a conf. file? I know thats what you have to do to enable/disable user shares. thats about the only thing I have'nt tried. Also when setting disk shares to Read/Write Hidden or don't export, I can still see disk1 in the XMB on the PS3, I would have thought I would not be able to see it? User shares are enabled. My top level shares are, Movies, Movies-Kids, Photo's, Music Whats happening is when I click on PS3MediaServer Icon on the PS3, the whole unRaid dir tree appears and lots of scrolling is required to get to my movies share etc, but if I have this(see below) in the conf. file it should go directly to it, but it's not, folders = /mnt/user/Movies,/mnt/user/Movies-Kids etc etc Any advice appreciated unRaid Basic 4.5.6 1 data assigned 1 parity waiting to be assigned Edit: Stopped the array, them modified the conf. file, then started the array again, but still no joy, do I need to add and assign a 2nd data disk? Rajahal
I think you need to restart the whole system, not just stop and start the array. PS3mediaserver is installed to the RAM each time you turn on your server, so the changes you make won't take effect until the next install. Link to comment

Thanks Rajahal, tried your advice, but still no change, I'm stumped. I have been using Word Pad to modify the file, what do you use? Cheers Link to comment
prostuff1
I have been using Word Pad to modify the file, what do you use? And there in lies your problem. Word pad is mangling the .conf file so PS3 Media Server can not read it. Use something like Edit Pad, NotePad++, or others. I think there is a section in the wiki about it. Link to comment

I thought as much, so I've tried using edit pad, but still, nada, I must be thick! is there a detailed how-to somewhere? Link to comment
graywolf
could use vi from a telnet/console session. Check if you have ^Ms (or anything else funky), especially at the end of the lines. Link to comment
neilt0
Editing text files via telnet is much easier if you use mc (midnight commander). Find the file and hit F4. It's a lot friendlier than vi, which is for masochists. Link to comment
graywolf
ahhh....but vi is universal in the *nix world. Always there in a pinch, always the same. Link to comment

Midnight Commander comes with the standard unRAID distribution. But not on the AIX/Linux boxes at work Is vi friendly, easy, the best? No. But it is always there in a pinch. And at work, the only option I have. Thats why I have a VI cheat sheet posted at work for me to reference when I need to. Link to comment
BRiT
ahhh....but vi is universal in the *nix world. Always there in a pinch, always the same. Not always. I had a few ancient IBM RT (AIX 2, BSD 4.2, AOS unix flavors) systems which only had 'ed'; which I used to install 'vi', which I used to install 'jed', which I used to install 'emacs'. Compass
Thanks everyone, she's a goer. In MC, I noticed that the file was saved as 'PMS.conf.txt' , once I got rid of the '.txt' it worked. To experiment, I then went back to my older conf files and tried to rename the 'PMS.conf.txt' using, Wordpad, Notepad2 and EditPad Lite, but no matter what I tried, nothing worked, it was always saved with the 'txt' on the end. Thanks again Link to comment
