Reading from the flash drive seem to work without problem. Could there be a configuration problem? I have a SANDISK 32GB USB-Flash only half a year old.

What should I do to find the cause of the problem?

Thanks

Shutdown, put flash drive in PC and let it checkdisk. If you continue to have problems try another port, preferably USB2.

checkdisk that the flash-drive is write-protected. It looks like it is the USB-drive itself having it locked to write-protection.

I am using a SanDisk Ultra-Fit 32GB flash-drive after I had my last (no-name) flash-drive stopping to work 7 month ago after 1 year of operation. I thought I now do exactly what you propose on your website and buy a more expensive flash-drive from one of the known brands.

I am now reading in the forum that it is knows that exactly this type from SanDisk has thermal problems (it also appeared to me that it was hot after remofing from my computer and from the UnRAID-machine) and is known to stop working after some time. It looks like I have this problem. I have already ordered a new flash-drive (this time exactly one of the types you recommend), then I will need a new key...

Thanks for your help anyway.

One problem with flash memory is that the retention time goes down with higher temperatures. A normal figure is that the retention time is halved for every 10°C. So a drive running 30°C hotter than another drive would then have a retention time that is 1/8 of the cooler drive.

This is normally not a problem with the flash drive is used for data transfer - so connected for minutes or hours and then disconnected for days until used next time. But it isn't good to use hot usb drives in unRAID since the drive is connected 24x7x365.
