August 26, 201015 yr Can you guys help with putting together some example builds based on currently widely available components, for a total of, say, $500 or less? My main needs are: - compatibility and stability with UnRaid - number of SATA ports - fast interface (not PCI) - ease of swapping hard drives (don't need hotswap cages, to save costs, but could use side-facing hard drives for example)

August 26, 201015 yr does 2GB of RAM make much of a difference? Only if you are going to be running addon's (airvideo, PS3 Media Server, Java, etc) then it would be a good idea to have at least 2GB of RAM. Otherwise it is not really needed for most things.
August 26, 201015 yr Author Airvideo, is that the same as the iPhone app? I use that on my Windows machine. It's available on UnRaid?
August 26, 201015 yr Airvideo, is that the same as the iPhone app? I use that on my Windows machine. It's available on UnRaid? There is an airvideo server install for Linux that I managed to get running (with a lot of help from JoeL. and a few others) under unMenu. Check out the thread in the Customization forum. EDIT: if you are planning on running Airvideo Server a more beefy CPU and more RAM would go a long way in helping it run.
August 26, 201015 yr Case: Cooler Master 590 Mobo: Asus M4A78L-M (6 SATA ports are attractive) Start with 1 Icy Dock PS: Corsair CMPSU-400CX RAM: Kingston 2GB PC6400 CPU Sempron 140 Sargas 2.7Ghz 45w Single Core my exact build
August 26, 201015 yr Author What would be a more powerful alternative to the Sempron 140 for the CPU? But then I could serve videos thru my always-on Windows PC like I do now anyways.
August 26, 201015 yr I have one of the budget builds. Works great for my needs. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=2031.msg69242#msg69242
