Help with GPU Pass through - gtx 1080ti

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone,

Learning a lot from this self project and have my array up. Started win 10 vm and got it working with VNC. Had some issues with my gaming mouse not working right (g600). Created a new vm and mouse issue was working so trying to do a pass-through to eliminate potential issues. I followed Spaceinvaders video when creating my first vm as well as doing the USB controller pass-through. The GPU was next.

My motherboard is an Asrock Z370 Taichi, Intel-7800k, Evga 1080ti,  rest if needed will provide. I am getting a blank screen and have tried all the displayports (3)  with no signal, though the vm is online with green status.  I moved the GPU to the second slot out of 3 and still same issue. My onboard video is working just fine as have a separate monitor connected. That gave me an idea. I went directly to the onboard video during boot up and selected the gui. Lauched the vm from the gui and now it is working. I decided since the gui was launched in IE that I would do the same from another network pc. That worked. Then changed it back to chrome and now that works. Not sure where it was hung up at, but now it is working.

Posting this as it may help someone else. Was an easy fix that cost me several hours of hair pulling. Now I know why people go bald =)

My mouse issue was resolved as well on the original Win 10 vm.

Just have one question. When the vm is launched I no longer have access to the onboard video gui. Is there a switch command to move mouse and keyboard from the vm to the gui???

Thanks for any help!!!

Sounds like this for the blank video on passthrough on 1080TI.

Once the VM takes the hardware (keyboard, mouse, what) it's gone from the unRAID gui; typically I think most people start administrating from a laptop at this point, until the VM gets going/usable,  since hardware bits are taken for the VM. Otherwise you'd need two sets of keyboard and mice (one for VM other for unRAID local).
