HITACHI Deskstar 2TB 7200 RPM - $89.99 MIR

Featured Replies

Seems like a good deal.  Thanks for posting it!

Does anyone have any feedback about the performance/reliability of these Hitachi drives in an unRAID system?  Would this make a good parity drive?

I have a HITACHI Deskstar 7K2000 HDS722020ALA330 (0F10311) 2TB 7200 RPM  as my parity drive.

I've only finished building it, moving files to unraid server, and built/check parity this past weekend.

So far so good.

My sever consists of all Hitachi HD's and I never had a problem with them.  I have all 1 TB drives, however recently I upgraded 2 of the drives to 2TB Hitachi's and they are working great as well.  The ones I got were:

I paid $100 for them back in May of this year and felt it was great price since these drives.  So far the drives have performed great and I plan on replacing all my 1TB drives with 2TB when I need more space.  I will admit I was skeptical about all the bad reviews people were giving Hitachi drives, but so far they have been good so no complaints here.

I ordered one just now.  Thanks!

Just what I've been waiting for - ordered two.

Tisk tisk, you should know better....

???

Buying two from the same source (likely same lot) - I plan to run through many preclear passes.

Only buying two - no room for more.

;D

As long as you are aware of the risk and take the appropriate measures (which it sounds like you are) I'll let it slide ;)

Bought one. Will not let me buy two?  :'(

I'll try later and see if I can sneak another one out.

I really want to try RAID0 parity on a pair of these.

As of 3:30 pm est, they are out of stock.  Guess I won't be getting one!

I have 5 of these drives, 4 of which are in the unraid system.  No problems at all so far (4 months).  Normally spun down, but when my theater turns on it spins them up and then spins them down when the theater is shut down.  My unraid system takes 12 drives.  I bought only the 5 waiting for the price to drop (paid 119.99 per drive).  Right now I hve no need for another drive as # 4 is unused and #5 is in a Dune player unused.  I suspect by year end they will be selling all the time for under $90. due to pressure from 3TB drives.

This is my parity drive... runs a bit warm, but haven't had any problems with it yet...

I have 4 HITACHI Deskstar 2TB 7200 RPM drives in my newer server.

They are cooled by three 120mm fans set to low speed (approx 1100 RPM) as seen in the links here:

http://i30.tinypic.com/2yos9xy.jpg

When spun down their temp drops to 25 or 26C, about 1 or 2 degrees C above the room ambient temp of 24C.

When spun up, but otherwise idle, they get to 31C.  When performing a parity check they get up to 34C.

For what it is worth, the three Seagate 7200 RPM drives in the same server run about 1 degree warmer.

The HITACHI drives may run warmer than some "green" drives spinning at 5400RPM, but I do not think they run warm at all.

I received my Hitachi 2TB drive from Newegg yesterday and it's installed as the new parity drive and working like a champ.  No issues so far...

I jumped on this deal too...and good thing I did.  The day it arrive (yesterday) was the same day I experienced my first unRAID drive failure.  Instead of adding 2TB storage, I ended up replacing a failing 1TB instead.
