8 errors during parity check after unclean shutdown

Featured Replies

well, after I finally got back up and running from a 3tb > 6tb drive upgrade that didn't go so well, my server became unresponsive 2 days ago, and when I arrived at its physical location, even the directly connected keyboard and mouse didn't allow me to shut the machine down with grace.

long story short, after a forced shutdown it started the parity sync, and this morning I woke up to it reporting 8 error during parity sync.

I attached the diagnostics in hope that someone can tell me what to make of it and what to do about it...it's been a rough few weeks with my otherwise so trusty and loyal unRAID system, but I still love it so...I am sure it's just a temporary slump, maybe due to the 100+ temperatures that have been causing havoc on everything here in Central Europe.

A few sync errors after an unclean shutdown are normal and expected.

thanks jb...so I can move on and not worry about it (too much)?

sorry, but correct them *how*?

Automatic parity check is non correct, you need to run a correcting one to fix those errors.

meaning that I have to hit the "Check" button now, with the "Write corrections to parity" box checked?

Yep, it should find (and now correct) the same 8 errors.

alrighty then, and there she goes.

thanks!

hmm, the error correcting Parity Sync is through but reported 6 errors again (it was 6 errors before, not 8, as I had stated).

even more concerning is that the "used/faulty" 6tb drive shows 128 errors...I attached SMART report (just the regular, not extended) and diagnostics.

I know now that it was foolish to try to save 50 bucks by buying a "like-new" drive, but that's what the situation is now...is the drive a loss and can't be "repaired" in some way?
the Amazon Marketplace seller has not responded to my request for a refund, so if this drive is really not to be trusted anymore, I will have to take it up with Amazon (and hope for the best) or bit the bullet and purchase a new one ?

As for the drive, more read errors, I would replace it.
