August 14, 20187 yr I am using a mix of internal and external HDDs in my server. The internal drives consistently stay around 34 C, but my 8 TB external drive (link for reference: https://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-EASYSTORE-EXTERNAL-WDBCKA0080HBK-NESN/dp/B073LK1F6X) is hitting around 47 C. This triggers notifications on the GUI repeatedly. Is this something I should worry about? Can I disable these notifications?
August 14, 20187 yr You can change the temperature warnings for those disks disks by clicking on them on the main page, though ideally you want to keep disks under 40C, 45C tops, but not much you can do with external disks. Also keep in mind that USB disks are not recommended for array use, if that's what you're using them for.
August 14, 20187 yr Author Thank you for the information on changing the warning threshold. I am using USB drives in my array. Should I shuck these drives instead? Or what is it that makes them not recommended?
August 14, 20187 yr USB is not good at error handling, it's much much likely to drop devices, there could also be performance issues, but stability is the largest concern, doesn't mean that it will cause problems for sure and few users use them, but still not recommended.
