IDE Drive Not Available in Devices

Featured Replies

Running Unraid 4.5.6 Pro.

Installed a 30GB WD IDE drive which is detected by bios but doesn't appear under the drop-down box under the Devices page in Unraid.  Can't seem to find a solution for this... Maybe this is just an incompatible drive with Unraid?

Does it show when you type:

ls -l /dev/disk/by*

Since I have no idea of the model drives in your array or of the 30GB drive, I still have no idea if the drive showed up in the listing you provided.

I'm going to guess it does not.

If the unRAID Linux OS does not see it, it will never be available on the"devices" page.

Does the disk controller get identified?  What shows in the syslog??

  • Author

Correct I don't see the 30GB drive show up in the ls command.  The 30GB drive does show up in the motherboard BIOS... After work I'll run a syslog and see if the Motherboard IDE controller is getting identified.

The motherboard is a Supermicro C2SEA.

I just recently migrated my unRaid to this same motherboard and I too have the same issue.  In the previous build I used the IDE drive as my cache drive.  Now that I have a much faster hardware platform I may not need a cache drive at all OR now that I have spare SATA ports I could use a smaller SATA drive.  But I would like to hear what you find out about the IDE drive.
