September 2, 201015 yr Hey guys, I need some help. I have 4.5.1 installed I want to maintain my shares setup etc, but downsize the number of disks to only 6. I have 7 disks. (1 parity + 6 data) I have files and shares that span across the 6 data disks. I am replacing the motherboard. The new motherboard has only 6 sata ports. I would like to remove disk 7 so that my array only consists of 6 disks permanently. What are the steps I need to take? Do I need to change my shares settings before I remove the disk from the array? I don't want any of the data lost on the 7th disk I am removing. Thanks, appreciate your help.

It does not tell you how to move all the data off of the disk you'll be removing. If you don't move them first, they'll be inaccessible when you un-assign the drive. To do that, use the disk shares. (enable them to be visible and exported for reading and writing) Then, using either window's file explorer, or "mc" (midnight commander) built into unRAID, move the files off of the disk you will be un-assigning and removing from the array. Move the files onto other disks on the server where there is room for them. After you've moved the files elsewhere, then use the procedure described in the wiki to un-assign the drive set a new initial configuration without it, and then re-calculate parity without it.
