Inx192
As per the title, my server grinds to a halt while files are being moved or unpacked. Examples of my problem: When Sab has downloaded something of a reasonable size (over few gb's) all other Dockers on the server just become unresponsive until the file has finished extracting and moving. The same happenes when just moving/copying large files around I had a problem at the time of building this server (A long time ago) with a faulty power supply so I put an old 650w supply in from an old Windows server. Do you think this could be my problem and if so, what is my best way to find out before buying another supply? testdasi
Where is your extraction from and to? Quote Link to comment
Inx192
If you mean in SAB, i have one folder with subs Media/Downloads/SABNZBD complete incomplete SAB extracts from incomplete to complete. Quote Link to comment
Inx192
I have also just noticed that i had quite a few redundant files in the incomplete folder so i started to delete all and when it starts, the speed drops to 0.00 and then after some time it speeds up and does the same over and over till complete. BTW, deleting was done via a Windows mapped drive. Edited September 7, 2018 by Inx192 Quote Link to comment

On array or on cache? Extracting not only stresses the HDD(s), it also stresses the CPU and the controller etc. So if it's on the array, I am not surprised that everything slows down - happened to me before. If it's on cache, even a HDD, then it would be surprising. Quote Link to comment
Chad Kunsman
I had this issue when my cache drive (where the writes were occurring) was formatted as BTRFS. Switching to XFS made these issues disappear. Quote Link to comment

unevent
Within Sab you have some settings that can tame the CPU and drive I/O demand. Look under Config - Switches for the Nice, IONice, and ExtraPAR2 parameters in the Post Processing section. The linked Sab Wiki will explain what they are and offer defaults to start with. If the ExtraPAR2 doesn't work (-t0), you can limit the number of cores to the Sab Docker to 1 or 2 as alternative. Quote Link to comment

All I know is that it solved my issues. Specifically any time my cache drive was doing heavy disk I/O, many of my docker containers and I think even the webUI would grind to a halt. Plex would become unusuable. Probably other stuff too. Reformatting to XFS fixed it. Up to you if you want to try. Quote Link to comment
Inx192
There is stuff on the cache drive, do i need to back that up first/run mover or is it just a copy of files on my array? Quote Link to comment
Chad Kunsman
Depends on how your shares are set up. If there's stuff on the cache drive only, then you'll want to make a backup to your array or somewhere. All my appdata and docker.img lives on my cache drive for example. Quote Link to comment
