huskycdn
okay so i built an unraid box 5 years ago. For personal reasons its been off for 2 years. so im building a new box with the current version. the old box was on ver 5 something. im trying to recover my media off the old hard drives plugged them into an external dock in a windows 10 machine. Disk management sees all three drives but i cant navigate them in explorer. Disk management just gives me a option to format. Am i missing something? Quote Link to comment
trurl
unRAID uses linux filesystems that can't be read by Windows. You should be able to use the disks in the new unRAID build and go from there. If you don't want to put them in the array you can use them as Unassigned Devices and read them. Quote Link to comment
huskycdn
thanks good to hear. nothing critical on there but i would still like to recover them. i did install the unassigned drive plugin and tried plugging them in but they werent seen. but im preclearing drives and hotswap didnt work. i will try again when i can shut down the box Quote Link to comment
Joey Macaraeg
When I had an ubuntu server LVM drive failure, i was able to use the disk internals application to access data.. https://www.diskinternals.com/linux-reader/ though this does not say it supports the xfs file system -if that is what your unraid box was using.. or https://www.paragon-software.com/home/linuxfs-windows/ not free.
