September 10, 20187 yr Looking for some feedback here... I have a Supermicro X8DTH-6F motherboard with dual xeon x5670 CPUs and 96GB RAM I have a Windows 10 VM setup in unraid with 4 cores and 16GB RAM and a GTX970 passed thru to the VM I am using Splashtop for the VM and have also tried NoMachine I have steam loaded and have installed a few games. I can play the games just fine but they seem to move too fast for the video to catch up. There is no lag in the gaming but it seems that the gaming moves too fast for the Splashtop or NoMachine connection to the VM Has anyone else experienced this - maybe there is some setting I am missing Like I said - the is no lag per se... it seems like Splashtop or NoMachine cannot keep up with the gaming speed Feedback welcome please.
September 10, 20187 yr using a desktop remote connection isn't like gaming on the desktop itself. it has to redraw the screen each time and send it to the client. it's intensive and your cpu's and gpu are not exactly new. So they will struggle. Look into steam streaming for a better experience gaming.

I played around with a SteamLink I picked up when they were on sale a while ago and just tried it yesterday with my gaming VM. On a wired connection it ran great. There were a few small hiccups but they were very minor.
September 10, 20187 yr Author So it is a splashtop rendering issue or is the 4 cores @ 2.93ghz and a gtx970 not enough? Would a GTX1070 solve the issue?
September 10, 20187 yr It is the software. Splashtop/Teamviewer/Etc are not great for rendering for gaming. Try using the steam inhome streaming from another machine or hook a monitor/keyboard/mouse to the 970 .
September 10, 20187 yr Author I just tried the Steam streaming - much better but I notice a little pausing here and there in Mortal Kombat XL Injustice 2 plays perfectly Ultra SF IV plays perfectly too Wonder if there are some tweaks to get MKX working flawlessly
