September 10, 20187 yr Ok so I had one drive go bad on the array. I'm wondering what the UNRAID recommendations are for replacement process. Is it hotswappable (Its in a hotswappable bay)? Do I need to shut down etc?
September 10, 20187 yr Community Expert If you hardware supports hotswap you can do it, you'll likely have to refresh the GUI after connecting the new drive, but shuting down the server is always safer.
September 10, 20187 yr Community Expert It is also worth querying whether the drive really has gone bad? If you think it has gone bad because it now has a red ‘x’ in the unRAID GUI that simply means that a write to it failed - not that the drive has necessarily failed. Writes failing due to external factors (e.g. cabling, power) are more frequent than the disk actually failing. If not sure then posting the diagnostics (obtained via Tools->Diagnostics) can get you some more informed feedback.
September 10, 20187 yr Author Na it started with bad sectors counts and the sector counts were going up all day till it finally crapped out and disabled

September 10, 20187 yr Community Expert Best to stop the array before hotswapping. You will have to have it stopped to assign the new disk anyway.
