ESXi Hosted NIC issue

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I'm trying to figure out the best way to get my unRaid setup working for my needs as a general file store for home media, and NFS for vmware datastore. As a file store with one nic everything works great, but NFS is slow on the 1GB side. I'm lucky enough to have 10GB, but when i add the second nic to connect to that network it (for some reason) it is assigned as eth0. Since it is on a separate network everything else breaks. The trouble lies in the fact that I i can not change the MAC addresses since Network-Rules does not appear in my gui (read another post that seemed to indicate that this is a VM related issue, Is there a way i can force it to appear?).

I've tried remove/adding the nics again in all sorts of ways, manually assigning MAC on the vm configuration (swapped the auto assigned around, thought maybe it assigned the lowest value first). Nothing seems to work. So i just figured i would ask if anyone has a solution other than creating a script to replace /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules on boot. Mentioned here https://forums.unraid.net/topic/47103-network-interfaces-keep-changing-names-how-do-i-fix-this/

I'm fairly new to linux as well, so any suggestion would be appreciated.
