icemounty
Until yesterday, I have not had any issues other than transfer speeds, copying from my windows 10 computer, to unraid server 6.5.3 Yesterday, I swapped out my C:\ drive with a Samsung SSD. Now the new Samsung drive is my C:\ drive and my old C:\ drive is now my D:\ drive I immediately began to get permission issues when copying folders between those 2 drives, and have finally figured it out. Todays issues is that I can not copy anything from either C:\ or D:\ to my mapped Tower Drive T:\Media 192.168.2.7 My Tower is mapped to my main Media folder T:\ drive and normally I use windows explorer to drag and drop between windows and my server. Now I'm getting a Destination Folder Access Denied Warning. Then it says you need permission to perform this action, try again or cancel. So, I have 7 or 8 folders setup up under 192.168.2.7\media 4K movies Disney Movies Downloads Fitness Videos Kindle Books Looney Tunes Movies Music Videos My Music Shared Photos TV Shows Sports Windows Software and Games When I try and drag and drop To most of these folders, I get that error. But not all of them. Seems like the permission issues I'm having are with the following folders Disney Movies Fitness Videos Looney Tunes Movies Music Videos My Music TV Shows Sports I also noticed that the permissions are different between the different shares Quote Link to comment
icemounty
Now When I try and change the permissions, Im getting enumerate objects in the container, access is denied in the following folders 9 minutes ago, icemounty said: Disney Movies Fitness Videos Looney Tunes Movies Music Videos My Music TV Shows Sports Quote Link to comment
testdasi
First and foremost, if you have Access Denied because of permission then you need to change permission in unRAID (e.g. via console / SSH). Changing permission of a Linux system through Windows is a very messy affair. "Access Denied" is a pretty generic Windows error for many things. I have seen it for the following, surely not exhaustive list: Destination write error Corrupted login credentials Excessive network latency Destination incorrect permission Antivirus scan in the background Bad NIC Bad router Bad cable Overloaded network Overloaded server Source incorrect permission (yep most inexplicable destination access denied due to source incorrect permission!) So if you suddenly have this error then First thing to check is whether there's any problem with your server and network. Clear credentials and remap again Go back to the last major action you have taken e.g. "swapped out my C:\ drive with a Samsung SSD" <-- curious what your "C:\" was originally If you haven't change permission of your share then it's highly unlikely that the permission suddenly changed. It must have been due to something else. Quote Link to comment
icemounty
can I make permission changes on my unraid server by accessing the gui through a web interface, or do I need to make changes directly though the server? For instance, while using windows explorer, under advanced setting folders that has my Disney media, the owner is listed as nobody which I assume is the default ownership. It lists full control. But the 2 other (users and everyone) only allows to read and execute. I guess I just dont understand where in the gui I need to change the permissions back to where they were before. itimpi
You can run the Tools->New Permissions tool to set unRAID permissions to their standard values. If you run Docker then you need to use the “Docker Safe” version of this tool to avoid resetting permissions in the ‘appdata’ folder used by most Docker containers. Quote Link to comment

icemounty
I see the new permissions in the gui, just don't understand what you mean by running it in a docker Quote Link to comment
itimpi
The Docker Safe New Permissions tool is installed if you install the Fix Common Problems plug-in (which is a highly recommended plugin to have). Quote Link to comment

icemounty
Your suggestions worked. once the permissions were fixed, I had to delete where I mapped the Tower drive to in windows explorer. Rebooted, disconnected the mapped tower drive in network places and remapped the drive at the command prompt. Not only can I now drag and drop from windows into my server again, but I am able to transfer at speeds of 80-110 mb/s. Most I ever got was around 20-40mb/s. Thanks again Itimpi Quote Link to comment
itimpi
Glad to hear everything is now fine. Not sure why your speeds have changed though if nothing else has changed! Your lower speeds sound as if you were writing directly to the parity protected array. The higher speeds suggest you are either writing to the cache (most likely reason) or have Turbo Write enabled.
