New drives and HBA, UDMA CRC errors

Featured Replies

Recently bought 2x 8tb Ironwolfs and a RES2SV240 to expand my array (had 18TB before, LSI 9220-8i in IT-mode).

Started preclears on both drives right after installation and everything seemed good. 30 hours later and both drives were done.

Problem is they both showed UDMA CRC errors, 3 and 6 each. Researching tells me its normally a bad cable.

I refitted everything, changed cables/ports, without success. Started extended SMART tests on 3 random drives from before and they passed without issues.

Then I connected the new drives to the LSI9220 directly and did a new preclear (only zeroing). No errors..

Is the RES2SV240 faulty? Why didnt the other drives get UDMA CRC errors when connected through the RES2SV240? Is it because I have not written that much data to the old array after I installed the RES2SV240?

9 times out of 10 the problem are the cables, but it can also be the expander or HBA.

Pretty sure I tried the same cable in both configurations (res2sv240 + LSI9220 and directly to the LSI9220).
Only got errors when the res2sv240 was involved. Has to be that one then?
