ashman70
I just got this board and I am about to upgrade my Plex server with it. I have four by 8GB ECC sticks of RAM to use. This board has 8 RAM slots, two on each side of each CPU socket. For the life of me I can't seem to find where I am supposed to put the RAM. For now I have put the RAM on the left side of each CPU socket, but is that correct? Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
The manual should specify what sockets should be used first, and it will also depend if you're using one or two CPUs Quote Link to comment
ashman70
Yeah it doesn't, which is why I am asking. I am using two CPU's Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
Using slots a b e f should work, you'll be limited to dual channel for each CPU, for quad channel you'd need 8 dimms Quote Link to comment
bonienl
See page 12 of the manual. Slots A,B,C,D are for the first processor Slots E,F,G,H are for the second processor. If you want to make use of dual-channel configuration then use A1+B1, next C1+D1 for the first processor. Similar the second processor is E1+F1 and G1+H1 1 Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
His board only has 4 slots per CPU, so as long as there are 2 DIMMs per CPU, i.e., 2 in slots A to D and the other in slots E to H it should work in any config. Quote Link to comment
