xman111
Hey guys, hope i didn't screw up too much, wasn't thinking. I took out disk 3 of my array to replace it. I replaced it with a new 4tb drive but selected new config by mistake. So basically my parity is rebuilding, disk 3 shows nothing on it, but i still have the working disk 3 in my hands. What is the best way to recover from this? I was trying to deal with my kids and don't know what i was thinking. Like i said, i still have a working disk 3 that is out of the machine so the files are there. Do i have to wait until it rebuilds parity, then put this disk back in to get the data off? JonathanM
You should be able to mount the drive using the Unassigned Devices plugin and copy the data back to the array drive. I wouldn't try hot plugging, powering down would be the safest route. Your choice whether you want to let the parity build finish or stop it and start it over after you get the old disk physically connected. Quote Link to comment
xman111
thanks man. is there any point in doing the parity now? Quote Link to comment
xman111
decided to stop the parity. is there an easy way to mount the drive and copy the files? Quote Link to comment
xman111
I was able to Telnet into the server and use midnight commander. I browsed to disks, then the Seagate disk. I then copied 1 directory back to /mnt/disk3, I hope this is right Edited September 20, 2018 by xman111 Quote Link to comment
JonathanM
You didn't give a whole lot of detail, but in the round general way you described it, that sounds right. After the parity build is complete, I'd do a parity check just to be sure everything is running smoothly. Quote Link to comment
xman111
hey Jonathanm, i just stopped the parity and decided to copy the files over. I didn't want to wait the 10 hours, just to then copy the files over, then do the parity again. did I screw it up? or am i just unprotected until the copying and parity is done? Quote Link to comment
itimpi
You will be unprotected until the parity build has completed. The actions you took will have invalidated the current parity. Quote Link to comment
