are we still pre-clearing drives?

hi all, been a while since I needed a new drive.  after adding it to my rig, I realised I had deleted the Joe's pre clear script (anyone know where to get it??)

In my searching, seems to be some discussion that pre-clear may no longer be needed, since current unraid versions don't take array off line while clearing and adding a drive

however, I thought that part of the need for the pre-clear process was to stress the drive a bit to see if it would be an early failure.  Are folks stressing drives in other ways?

thoughts are appreciated!
