The default size of 1GB is probably far more than is needed as all that is stored inside it is configuration information about the VM service and any VMs you create. Quote Link to comment

I don't see that option in the VM settings any longer. I do see the btrfs as 20GB. NM figured it out Edited September 7, 2019 by lovingHDTV Quote Link to comment
BartDG
Hi Guys, I've been using Unraid for years now, but only as a file server. Today I've started looking at Dockers and VM's and since I'm still a noob at those, of course I've run into my first snag. I also get the "Libvirt Service failed to start" message after enabling VM's in the VM manager. When I look (with midnight commander) at the /mnt/user/system/libvirt directory, there is no such file as "libvirt.img". They way I understand it, Unraid should create this file automatically when the VM's are enabled, no? What am I doing wrong? (Unraid version is 6.8.0 rc6) Thanks! Quote Link to comment

Squid
IMAGE_FILE="/mnt/user/system/libvirt/" Common mistake. The libvirt storage location points to a file, not to a folder. Add libvirt.img to the end of it in the settings Quote Link to comment
BartDG
Ok. I've now added the libvirt.img to the storage location, so it now reads "/mnt/user/system/libvirt/libvirt.img". Still, no file is created and the error remains. (when I ssh into the server, I still see no file). I've added another diagnostics file. tower-diagnostics-20191117-2039.zip Quote Link to comment

BartDG
Thanks Johnnie! I'm not home at the moment, but I'll make sure to try this tonight when I get back. Cheers! Edit. That worked! Thanks a lot! Edited November 19, 2019 by BartDG Quote Link to comment
vvolfpack
I'm facing a similar issue too. I've tried all the steps detailed above and unable to find a resolution. I also copied over my libvirt.img file from a backup, but still no luck. vvolfpack
Thanks for the tip! I'll reboot the server once I'm back home in 2 days, since I'm worried I won't be able to log back into it via OpenVPN upon reboot. (Array has a password, so does my root account) Quote Link to comment

Wireguard would work better in this instance, however, I'd always recommend a backup method to get in to your home network. Router based VPN can be one way, a different way would be a pc with teamviewer or some other remote access package that runs all the time. 1 Quote Link to comment

severanced
Hello, I didn't want to create a new topic as I'm experiencing this same issue with "Libvert Service failed to start" appearing. I've rebooted, I've tried to restore the previous Libvert.img. I've made sure that it's pointing to an img file as shown here I've included the diagnostics. What's strange is this happened after I downloaded the newest VirtIO Driver ISO after building a second VM. diagnostics-20200324-2258.zip Quote Link to comment

Like mentioned it starts correctly at first array start, try booting in safe mode. Quote Link to comment
