jang430
I plan to upgrade my existing Dell Perc H310 controller. Seeing some 4 TB sas drives on ebay costing only 70 usd or less. Would like to take advantage of the inexpensive drives. I was told my controller won't benefit from it. So looking to upgrade my controller. Want a good deal. Hope you guys can suggest. My Supermicro X11SSZ-F M/B though only has PCIe 3.0 x 4 vacant. So kindly suggest model that fits. Quote Link to comment

jang430
My current controller is only good for SAS 6g, or sata 3. I see a lot of good deals for SAS 12g. So looking to replace my existing hba controller.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote Link to comment
JonathanM
As @johnnie.black tried to explain to you, your current controller is faster than those 4TB drives. The maximum burst rate from the drive's on board cache RAM may be faster, but that's not a significant amount of data. You will not feel any speed increase by changing your controller UNLESS YOU USE FAST SSD drives. 4TB spinners are WAY slower. Until you get some great deals on 4TB SSD's, don't spend money changing the controller. Quote Link to comment
jang430
Oh, I thought by going SAS 12g controller, I will have better performance when using SAS drives. OK, so it's clear that unless the SAS is SAS SSD, no spin drives will improve my performance. Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote Link to comment
