tritium6
Hello, I'm putting together my first unRaid system. I have two SuperMicro AOC-SASLP-MV8s connected to a SuperMicro X8SIA-F mobo. I've got 3 Seagate ST32000542AS connected to different ports of the cards. When I try to boot, while the cards are detecting connected drives, for one of the drives I get "Warning - Time out! !Error: PD Not Ready or Unknown Device Type" "Warning - Something wrong with adapter, Press any key to escape bios!". This can occur on any of the hard drives. When I press a key, it does the scan again immediately, and often detects the drives just fine the second time through. I've been able to boot into unRaid this way, and have managed to format and transfer some files onto the array. Does anyone have any advice about how to fix the detection problem? Does this sound like a HDD problem or a controller card problem? Thanks, -Randy Link to comment
BRiT
Try basic troubleshooting steps. Does it follow a particular card? Does it follow a particular slot? Does it follow a particular drive? Does it happen with a single card? Does it happen with both cards and no drives? Does your BIOS have a INT13H setting that can be enabled/disabled? Does your BIOS have a setting for spin-up delay for drives? Try a card in the first slot -- Try 1 card with 0 drives (slot a, card a). Try 1 card with 1 drive (slot a, card a drive a). Try 1 card with 1 drive (slot a, card a drive b). Try 1 card with 1 drive (slot a, card a drive c). Try 1 card with 2 drives (slot a, card a drive a, drive b). Try 1 card with 2 drives (slot a, card a drive a, drive c). Try 1 card with 2 drives (slot a, card a drive b, drive c). Try 1 card with 3 drives (slot a, card a drives a, b, c). Try same card in the other slot -- Try 1 card with 0 drives (slot b, card a). Try 1 card with 1 drive (slot b, card a drive a). Try 1 card with 1 drive (slot b, card a drive b). Try 1 card with 1 drive (slot b, card a drive c). Try 1 card with 2 drives (slot b, card a drive a, drive b). Try 1 card with 2 drives (slot b, card a drive a, drive c). Try 1 card with 2 drives (slot b, card a drive b, drive c). Try 1 card with 3 drives (slot b, card a drives a, b, c). Try the other card in first slot -- Try 1 card with 0 drives (slot a, card b). Try 1 card with 1 drive (slot a, card b drive a). Try 1 card with 1 drive (slot a, card b drive b). Try 1 card with 1 drive (slot a, card b drive c). Try 1 card with 2 drives (slot a, card b drive a, drive b). Try 1 card with 2 drives (slot a, card b drive a, drive c). Try 1 card with 2 drives (slot a, card b drive b, drive c). Try 1 card with 3 drives (slot a, card b drives a, b, c). Try the other card in other slot -- Try 1 card with 0 drives (slot b, card b). Try 1 card with 1 drive (slot b, card b drive a). Try 1 card with 1 drive (slot b, card b drive b). Try 1 card with 1 drive (slot b, card b drive c). Try 1 card with 2 drives (slot b, card b drive a, drive b). Try 1 card with 2 drives (slot b, card b drive a, drive c). Try 1 card with 2 drives (slot b, card b drive b, drive c). Try 1 card with 3 drives (slot b, card b drives a, b, c). Try both cards -- Try 2 cards with 0 drives. Try 2 cards with 1 drive (slot a, card a drive a, slot b, card b 0 drives) Try 2 cards with 1 drive (slot a, card a 0 drives, slot b, card b drive a) ... Try 2 cards with 1 drive (card a drive c, card b 0 drives) Try 2 cards with 1 drive (card a 0 drives, card b drive c) ...
