Are there any opinions on a 10 or 12 TB drives?

Recommended Posts

I have been looking to replace my 8tb parity drives with 10 or 12 TB drives and wondering which drives would be a better option.

Looking at the WD Purple. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?reviews=all&Item=9SIABT16656762 or the WD Red

 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822231546 .

Another question is whether the 5900rpm or the 7200 rpm drives make that big of a difference for parity drives. Trying to stay with a lower rpm to keep temps lower, but can go with a faster drive. If going the 7200rpm route that brings in the Seagate drives. All in all I don't know which would be the better or more reliable drives to get. Any opinions are welcome.

Thanks

Edit: also see some external 10 TB drives from both WD and Seagate for a lower price, if that could play into an option.

I've been a fan of the Ironwolves for a bit now, just had my first failure in years about a month ago and got the RMA no problem.  That said, the Ironwolf 10TB drives tend to have high (IMHO) seek head clicking, so if quiet is important they aren't my first reccomendation.

As to speeds, I get ~250MB/sec pre-clear speeds (dropping to 190MB/sec over time)...so they are FAST, but IIRC I was about 220ish on the Reds I used to have, so it isn't an epic difference.

Hope this helps a little!
