October 5, 20187 yr I am going to be building my self a new computer soon and would like to pass my old one down to my sons. Since they both like playing some games I am thinking about using UnRaid and setting up two VMs. The system consist of: I7 6800K 32 GB Ram 960 Evo Asus X99-II Could I give each VM 6 threads and 16 Gigs of Ram or do I need to keep a couple threads and some ram for UnRaid. If so how many threads and how much ram. It wouldn't be used for anything other than for them to game on. Thank you.
October 5, 20187 yr I think this depends on the type of games your sons play. Simpler games , VM with 4 vcpus (or threads) and 8GBs of RAM might do the trick. Higher end games , you might need a more resources. Also, you didn't specify if you have any video hardware to passthru to the VMs, which would help in gaming. October 5, 20187 yr Author They mostly play Fortnite, Overwatch and a couple free to play games on Steam. Not very demanding games. I would most likely reuse the 1070 and R9 290X I already have for them. Mostly just wondering if I can assign all the threads to the VM or do I need to save a couple for UnRaid.
