Confused about drive status

Featured Replies

One of my drives under the Main tab has a Red X and says drive is disabled, contents emulated. When i click on the drive through it says mounted and my SMART status is PASSED. I didn't make any configuration changes when this happened. I simply did a safe shutdown, then booted the server back up and the drive went into this state. I don't know how to get it out and back into normal state. I thought the drive had failed as it is old, but as the SMART scan is passed, I'm confused.

Diagnostics would be a boon.

But what happened is that a write to the drive failed.  Because of that, the drive was disabled, and all writes / reads from it are now emulated using the contents of the other drives + parity drives.

To get it back, you need to

  1. Stop the array
  2. Unassign the drive
  3. start the array
  4. Stop the array
  5. Reassign the drive
  6. unRaid will now rebuild the contents from the emulated drive back to the disabled drive.

This isn't a good way to evaluate a drives health, a disk with pending sectors will still show as SMART overall health: pass

Thanks,

I'll do those steps to add the drive back in.

The drives old, as are most of my drives.

Disk looks fine, UDMA CRC errors suggest a bad SATA cable, so start by replacing that.

I hope that's not the case as it's a brandnew sas breakout cable. Might just be a lose connection as this happened after I moved the server.

It's also a possibility, after checking connections keep monitoring that attribute, if it keeps increasing there's still a problem.
