Transitioning to a new build

Featured Replies

Could someone point me to a thread or guide about moving my licence to a new system?

I have an existing system which runs fine. However, I am about to start building a new server. I want to make sure everything actually works with the new hardware before I move over my key and drives.

License follows the USB stick. The usb stick is basically your license. If you want to check the new hardware get another usb stick and do a trial.

So the hardware doesnt matter? Ill be changing MB, CPUs, memory, NICs. Only thing Ill be porting will be my HDDs and cache SSDs

Hardware doesn't matter from the standpoint of your license. License is just the stick and holds the OS as well. Now for other things like passthrough and such. Those can be drastically changed by moving to different MBs and cpus and such. I'd suggest changing all your VMs and your array to disable autostart the first time around. VMs only if your doing passthroughs.

By the way, you can use the Trial license feature on another Flash Drive to test the hardware for your new build without having install any hard drives!   This will allow you to make sure that all of the basic hardware is working before you make the big switch.  The only requirement for the rial license is that the new server must have Internet access.
