September 10, 201015 yr Hi All... I am a newbie to UnRaid and have bullt a server using UnRaid 4.5.6 Plus to replace my Thecus n5200... but I am still learning and playing to make sure it "does what it says on the tin" before I trust my valuable data to it. So at the moment I have a 2Tb parity drive, a 320Gb disk 1, 160Gb disk 2 and an 80Gb disk 3. I copied about 500Gb data to the array and all was great - it spanned the disks and gave a single share as I had set up. So I thought I'd pull a disk (disk 1) to make sure no data was lost and fantastic it was all there. I did notice that the temperature on disk 3 suddenly reported as zero degrees whilst disk 1 was dead. But all the data was available from the user share... but I did notice that if I tried to access the data on the disk share it showed a few odd folders but no data. I assume that these are all as expected. At this point I powered down the server to replace the "failed disk" and re-inserted the original disk 1. When the server came on the array was stopped and needed manually starting. All seems OK, all the data is there and even when I view the disk share for disk 1 the data is all there... but on the main screen disk 1 has a red dot beside it - but reports the correct size, free space and temperature. However there is no obvious way that I can see to check the array and flag the drive as good. There is also no button to sync the parity drive. It does however say in the command area that the array is started OK. I am sure that there is a simple way to right this and have read various scenarios for changing a disk but dont want to try any without knowing I am doing it right. As I mentioned, this is a test environment before I rely on it - so it is not critical, but I just like to know how to use software before I rely on it. Any help appreciated
September 10, 201015 yr I believe you need to stop the array, reassign disk1 (as far as UNRaid is concerned that drive failed, so it will attempt to rebuild it) and let it reconstruct the data.
September 10, 201015 yr Author Hi Jazzy Thanks - I did stop the array and unassign the disk - then start the array without it. Then stop the array, re-assign the disk and restart the array... but it still shows the same. As I said I am very new, so I am not sure that this is the right way to do this?
September 10, 201015 yr Author Hi Jazzy You were right... I unassigned disk 1... rebooted the server and then re-assigned the disk and it is now rebuilding the data Thanks
