Any way to update SMART attributes?

I have four WD80EZAZ drives.  These are unofficial Western Digital helium RED drives with WHITE labels.  Under SMART attributes there is attribute 22: 

22	Unknown attribute	0x0023	100	100	025	Pre-fail	Always	Never	100

I know that this attribute is the "helium level."  Is the attribute read directly off the drive, or is it in the SMART database?  If it's in the SMART database who can I contact to update it?

 

I am sure WD lists this as "unknown attribute" because they didn't want people to know that these are really RED drives in disguise ;-)
