Replacing CPU to help VM's

Featured Replies

Hi my build consists of

intel g4560

8gb ddr4 2400mhz

6x 4tb seagate nas drives

2x mx300 275gb cache drives raid 0

LSI SAS 9201-8i (9211-8i) IT mode

in Fractal design node 804

I mainly just use as a plex server and NAS but im starting to play with VM's, i have successfully installed w10 pro and works fine ( except sound but working on that) but feels really sluggish, ive check cpu when running VM and its always quite high so was planning on changing to a I5 6500 or 7500.

So my question is do you think this will help the VM's and when i change will my server just boot as normal as long as the bios see the new chip ?

Any help or advice would be grateful thanks again

Just time for a quick comment but I run VMs on much older hardware - dual 3ghz quad core xeons from 2008ish - and experience little lag.

I doubt the hardware is the issue. When I first started my Win 10 Pro VM it was awful - even when doing nothing it would pin all assigned cpu's at 90+% - hours of fiddling later - it runs very nicely.

There's a few posts on the forum about really bad Win10 vm performance that I found helpful.
