whipdancer
can you give the mb info? USA or EU? Quote Link to comment
French-Guy
Hi It's a Biostar A785GE.........bought in the US (I live in the US) Running with an "old" AMD X2-250.....😨 Quote Link to comment
whipdancer
It looks like both the AM2+ & AM3 versions are basically the same. I think the AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 should work (both of mine worked fine in PCI-E 2.0 slots). I replaced my 8 year old MB about 3 weeks ago and the controller cards carried over from there. These are Marvell based controller cards and some people report issues. I bought both my cards off ebay and have had no issues in the last 6 or so years I've been using them. Quote Link to comment
French-Guy
thank you Would this one work as well: https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-SuperMicro-MegaRAID-8-Port-PCI-SAS-Storage-RAID-Controller-AOC-USAS2-L8I-L8A/391972942445?hash=item5b4368726d:g:B3gAAOSw7p5ach1R:sc:USPSFirstClass!48306!US!-1:rk:19:pf:0 Quote Link to comment

French-Guy
ok, thanks for the link So, this one should work without having to do any kind of firmware update? https://www.ebay.com/itm/LSI-PCIe-SAS-SATA-RAID-Controller-IT-Mode-SAS9211-8i-flashed-ZFS-FreeNAS-unRAID/153221201997?epid=1401848784&hash=item23acb2004d:g:kC0AAOSwkfRbxiAb:rk:3:pf:0 Quote Link to comment

Avoid why? Don't get the question, already said it's one of the recommended controllers to use. Quote Link to comment
French-Guy
Sorry, I wasn't clear: the question was if this card has some kind of imitations, or if there are much better cards for not much more, etc...? Or if it's an 8 SATA 6GB/s ports that will work just fine in an Unraid server, like any other 8 ports SAS card Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
No limitations, except if you're using them with SSDs. Quote Link to comment
French-Guy
Doesn't work with SSD? Don't have one yet in my server, but was thinking to add 1 as a cache drive.....! Quote Link to comment

These HBAs don't support trim operations on SSDs. Edited November 7, 2018 by Hoopster Quote Link to comment
