November 3, 20187 yr Hello I want to increase my qty of SATA ports Looking for a 8 SATA 6Gb/s cars, that will work on a PCI-E x 16 2.0 (it's an ~9 year old motherboard) Thanks
November 3, 20187 yr Author Hi It's a Biostar A785GE.........bought in the US (I live in the US) Running with an "old" AMD X2-250.....😨
November 3, 20187 yr It looks like both the AM2+ & AM3 versions are basically the same. I think the AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 should work (both of mine worked fine in PCI-E 2.0 slots). I replaced my 8 year old MB about 3 weeks ago and the controller cards carried over from there. These are Marvell based controller cards and some people report issues. I bought both my cards off ebay and have had no issues in the last 6 or so years I've been using them.
November 3, 20187 yr Author thank you Would this one work as well: https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-SuperMicro-MegaRAID-8-Port-PCI-SAS-Storage-RAID-Controller-AOC-USAS2-L8I-L8A/391972942445?hash=item5b4368726d:g:B3gAAOSw7p5ach1R:sc:USPSFirstClass!48306!US!-1:rk:19:pf:0

November 3, 20187 yr Author like this one then: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-PERC-H200-6Gb-PCI-e-SAS-SATA-8-Port-Raid-Controller-9210-9211-8i-047MCV/172981732523?epid=15018032504&hash=item284683c4ab:g:39YAAOSwsYpaS32g:rk:2:pf:0

November 4, 20187 yr Usually yes, instructions here: https://forums.unraid.net/topic/12114-lsi-controller-fw-updates-irit-modes/?page=24&tab=comments#comment-255573
November 4, 20187 yr Author ok, thanks for the link So, this one should work without having to do any kind of firmware update? https://www.ebay.com/itm/LSI-PCIe-SAS-SATA-RAID-Controller-IT-Mode-SAS9211-8i-flashed-ZFS-FreeNAS-unRAID/153221201997?epid=1401848784&hash=item23acb2004d:g:kC0AAOSwkfRbxiAb:rk:3:pf:0

November 6, 20187 yr Author Sorry, I wasn't clear: the question was if this card has some kind of imitations, or if there are much better cards for not much more, etc...? Or if it's an 8 SATA 6GB/s ports that will work just fine in an Unraid server, like any other 8 ports SAS card
November 6, 20187 yr Author Doesn't work with SSD? Don't have one yet in my server, but was thinking to add 1 as a cache drive.....!

It is generally best to connect SSDs to motherboard SATA ports and hard disk drives to the HBA. These HBAs don't support trim operations on SSDs. Edited November 7, 20187 yr by Hoopster
