Another Plex build

Hello!

I just found out about Unraid and I got very excited to try it out. I currently run a Win 10 machine with a FX-6300  CPU and two HDDs with no data protection whatsoever. I want a low power, small factor and quiet machine to run Plex, Sonarr, Radarr, Tautulli and being used as NAS to store images and whatnot. Parity will give me some protection for this.

Plex will mostly do 2-3 1080p transcodes at once and the NAS/Server/Whatever-its-called will be in my living room hence the low noise.

Here are the parts i'm thinking about buying, would you replace anything and if so - what for what?

CPU: I3-8100

Case: Node 304

Mobo: ASRock Z370M-ITX/AC
I picked this for the 6 SATA ports

RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 2400MHz 8GB
Do I need more RAM?

SSD: Samsung SSD 860 EVO 250 GB
Do I need a bigger SSD as a cache drive?

HDD: 3x WD Red 4TB
With more being added as my media grows

PSU: Seasonic FOCUS+ 550W Gold

Efficient and passive for lower noise

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
Been using these for years, low noise

The only thing I would consider is the size of the cache drive - because that is where the dockers, associated configs and any associated activity will live.

I tried a 250gb ssd and it was too small for my needs (I use my system for a lot of activity). I moved to a 2tb 2.5in drive for my cache and it stays about 40% full pretty much all the time (and has been as much as 70% full).

Consider moving up in size. The price difference from 250gb to 500gb (or even 1tb) isn't terrible.  With Black Friday coming up, I expect to see at least a few good HD/SSD deals as well.

All that said, it might work for you. Just consider what you will need it to do.

Thanks! I'll try find a 500GB one then. Yeah I will be looking for all the parts during black friday and hope to save a few bucks 😛
