Cant Get GPU Passthrough to work

Featured Replies

Hey,

Ill start by saying im a beginner when it comes to VM's and GPU passthroughs and im following spaceinvaderones videos to figure it out.

hardware im running is

MB: Gigabyte AORUS B450m

CPU: Ryzen 2400G

GPU: Gigabyte AORUS RX580 8GB

The bios is set to use IGD (onboard graphics to boot) leaving the PCIe card free for a VM.

Using Seabios in the config because I got no screen output on OVMF.  Windows 10 installs fine,  the problems start when I go to install the GPU drivers from AMD it gets half way through the install and all I get is a blank screen and that's it.  Ive tried reinstalling the VM multiple times with the same result.  If I force stop the VM and re start it, it just gets to the windows splash screen and locks up.

The GPU is is its own IOMMU Group with the GPU sound card (I also pass that through)

Im at a loss as to what to try next.  Any ideas?

UPDATE:  I wanted to confirm the GPU wasn't dead so I installed it in another system drivers installed fine.

Tried fully updating the windows install.   Ran AMD Driver clean tool.

Still crashing host system at the same point.

I have the exact same problem with a Sapphire RX580 8GB. Is there a solution?

EDIT: i managed to get the system running with an older driver (18.9.3)
