November 22, 20187 yr Looks like I may need quickly a 4TB drive to "replace" 3 x 1.5TB (they are not 100% full) Microcenter is doing the Seagate Barracuda 5,900 rpm at $100 Newegg has the Deskstar HGST for $110 They also have the Toshiba X300 for $100 Which one would be best?
November 22, 20187 yr I believe both the HGST and the Toshiba are 7200 rpm drives if that matters to you at all. I would go for the HGST because they seem to be a pretty solid drive. Toshiba would be my 2nd choice. All of my current disks are 6TB HGST's and the have been flawless so far. I had one 6TB X300 and it was doing just as well, maybe just a tad bit hotter than the HGST's. It died a premature death a couple of days ago while I was doing some upgrades to my server, but the fault was totally my own and nothing to do with the quality of the drive itself.
November 23, 20187 yr Author I've ordered a WD Easystore 4TB on Google Express (from Best Buy) for $73 If the drive inside is a WD Red (as it was for the 8TB I ordered for $155 2 weeks ago), then I guess it's a good deal......
