I expect you are still getting hack attempts on ssh then.

You do know there are bots that automatically seek out and relentlessly try to break into systems don't you?

You will probably have to get physical access to make any progress.

Use this site to check the security of your server.  Run the at least the port checkers. The site is full of good information on system security.

An open SSH port is an invitation to would-be hackers.

Now I've got my ports locked down, what do I do when I get local access?

I assume OpenVPN would be a good idea.

I'm also gonna post to the suggestions forum to let us add reCAPTCHA to the logon page t.t

@Daf A big 👍 to everything @wgstarks said.  That's the route to go for offsite access to your server.

The Gibson Research site I linked earlier shows all ports in stealth mode on my server and inaccessible from the outside world even with the port(s) for OpenVPN forwarded.  To anyone but me with the proper OpenVPN login credentials to a dynamic DNS server name I established through No-IP, my server does not exist.

The SpaceInvaderOne video should get you going.  Make sure you read well the section in the OVPN Github or Docker Hub links about Setting up the Application or every time you update the docker your login credentials will be reset to the defaults.
